This is how forest girls are born.

Of course, they were always forest girls, in a way. Too much time wandering through the woods, too much time touching the trees, and that’s how the trees choose them, when they smile to their selves and remember the energy, of the girl who was never happy inside four walls.

She struggles, at first, inside the cocoon. No one wants to be changed, because change always hurts, and particularly not when it’s so painful as this. But it’s also true that, when we have come out the other side of a change, it’s often possible to see the beauty of it, the reason that change was good.

In her new transformation, she stands shaky on four legs, shy deer-girl with a coat of leaves and thorns… and wanders deeper into the forest, to see it for the first time with brighter, darker eyes.
